Project Profiles
SEARCH relies on a variety of mechanisms to strengthen capacity in the health system – from its SEARCH Classic program that enables people working in health care organizations to assess or conduct research and apply the results, to funding of community-based faculty to support the research capacity development requirements of specific regions through its Custom program.
Below are just a few examples of projects completed over the past several years:
SEARCH Custom Program
- Study on NICU Feeding Practices is Springboard for Further Research
- Evaluating Approaches to Public Health Nursing
Local Projects - SEARCH Classic
As part of their participation in SEARCH Classic, participants are asked to complete a local project, focused on summarizing what is known on a topic of relevance to decision-making in the sponsoring organization. These projects emphasize the application of skills in Choosing Evidence, such as searching for, appraising, selecting and synthesizing research studies. Following are examples of local projects completed as part of SEARCH Classic.
- Assessing Patient Complexity in the Inner City
- Helping Younger Adults in Long-Term Care
- Reducing Medication Errors
- Making Exercise Sticky
- Moving Stroke Guidelines into Clinical Practice
- Research Drives Change in Mental Health Services
- Help for New Mothers
- Mentoring Makes a Difference
- Pay-for-Performance in the Spotlight
- Good Care is About People
- Working Better Together
Provincial Projects
SEARCH participants also complete a provincial project, working in teams that include members from different regions, sectors and disciplines. The teams come together around topics of common interest that are derived from priority themes identified by senior health managers across the province.
